Focus on Wales in your mind, and what pictures do you see? What comes to my mind, apart from the grazing sheep, are the rolling hills and the rugged mountain tops. In a world where unspoilt landscapes are rare, Wales retains a simplistic rustic charm. It may explain why 13 milliion people have visited in a year!

As a destination, Wales has something to suit everyone, historic buildings, free space and sports for all levels and ages. Another fascinating option when considering things to do in Wales, is exploring the ancient mines and caves litter the hillsides.

Wales has had rich and dramatic past with bloody conflicts and royal sagas. The small country boasts 641 castles, built between the 10th and 18th centuries and displaying an enormous range of both ancient and modern architectural styles. Beaumaris Castle on the isle of Anglessey, for example, begun in the 13th century, is one of the most sophisticated examples of medieval British military architecture. As well as medieval castles, Wales also has some intesting abbeys and churches that are accessible to everyone. Whilst you are enjoying the atmosphere of the historical past, you could visit one of the many art galleries or soak up the culture in the National museum.

If checking out Welsh history is not your idea of perfect holidays in Wales, there is plenty of scope for indulging in all sorts of adventure sports. There are many activities on offer including hiking, kayaking, surfing and bike riding.
